HOT CAR!
It's Motorhead Sunday and I've spent the weekend at Road America for the annual SCCA June Sprints. Friday was great...Sunday was great....Saturday was a Class 1 Charlie Foxtrot. Rained all day...had well over 3 inches of rain in just a few hours added to the rest of the month for a monthly total of 6.5 inches (16.9cm). The ground is saturated. Flooding all over the track this morning. Several hundred campers had to be moved from their location or they would have awakened this morning in the middle of a foot deep lake. The main entrance tunnel was flooded with chest deep water at the end of the races Saturday. This morning they had it pumped out. Mud everywhere....a real mess.

But the races go on rain or shine. It was overcast and slightly rainy this morning...and cold. By afternoon the sun was out and it got really hot and sticky. In about 10 days we'll be overrun by a new crop of mosquitoes. Our mosquitoes are not very large but they are all mouth. They work part time for the Red Cross.

The photo above shows Michael Lewis in his GT3 class 1992 Mazda RX7 making a tight dogleg left turn at Turn 8. It's a long downhill run from T-7 and some unburned hydrocarbons back up in the exhaust system when decelerating before the turn. Then upon acceleration into the turn the heat of the exhaust pipe burns those volatile gasses and flames will shoot out of the exhaust port. It looks like he's on fire....he's not. He just has a hot little car. Dunno how he finished...the final data are not yet posted.
