Dill in a Pot

We planted a large pot with dill, thyme and basil. The dill is flowering now and I’m liking the way it looks with the oak foliage behind it. I was hoping to get some bird pictures but it seems to be the afternoon lull. And it’s hot. Sometimes I think the animals are smarter than we are when the weather is extreme….

It’s very quiet today. The thermometer says it's 90F (32C). The dogs are flaked out on the bathroom tiles which are cool, and I am about to put on a sweater because it is positively frigid inside.  Although the thermostat says it is 70, I don't believe it.  I keep fiddling with it but haven't figured out how to get it to cooperate with my perceptions.

John came home from the bird store with something called ‘Flaming Squirrel Seed Sauce’…hot sauce that doesn’t bother birds but theoretically does bother squirrels. We’re supposed to mix it with bird seed before putting it into the feeder….This isn't the squirrel hour but they will be back tomorrow morning, jumping from the bushes to the top of the squirrel baffle and climbing the pole to the feeder.
We’ll see what happens.

There are a couple of vultures flying low over the treetops. They are quite beautiful in flight as they ride the thermals, gliding long distances without moving their wings. John used to catch gophers in Sebastopol and would put them on the roof of the barn. By the time we came back the following weekend there would be nothing left of them. The scavenging vultures would have taken care of them.

Dana, Jim and Will are on their way home from the Yosemite wedding of  Will’s friend, Bobby. I think he is the first one of their group of guys who have been friends since grade school to get married. One doesn’t usually think of dressing elegantly in Yosemite, but this wedding provided an exception. Dana sent a couple of pictures of Will (who was in the wedding) with his girlfriend, Chloe, and another with Dana.

I’m cooking Sunday supper today.
