The Cautious Traveller's Guide to the Wastelands

It wasn't supposed to be released for another two weeks. Apparently, Waterstones sent out their pre-orders early by mistake. A bonus for me, as I was able to get to read it well before most. This novel has been long in the writing and knowing Sarah well, as a good friend from Leeds Writers Circle, I've been able to follow her publishing journey with great excitement over the last five years. We've always understood how talented she is but it's another thing to see that kind of talent actually recognised and rewarded. No one deserves it more.

I didn't really doubt that I was going to enjoy this novel. I knew the premise but none of the detail. The writing is beautiful, the story is strange and utterly captivating. The ending is surreal in the most wonderful way. I'd recommend to it any kind of reader. It breaks through many genres, which is perhaps why so many publishers fought for its rights.
