Opportunistic Fisherman

Another good night sleep at Whinwhistle Fisheries
Leisurely start - no set plans today.

David cooked another great brunch with items we had previously purchased, though apparently there are breakfast options available at the cafe on site. We tried out their coffee later on and a further excellent ice cream treat in the afternoon.

“Action man David” assembled and rode his bike to the nearest convenience store to pick up his newspaper, while I cleaned and tidied the BK.

After being inspired by the fisherman in the caravan next to us, who caught a huge carp, (apparently worth £3,000!) he thought about hiring some fishing tackle and having a go himself. However, this same man had to go off somewhere and left his wife (a non- fisherman!) in charge of looking after the fishing line while he was gone. Inevitably, she got a bite and didn’t know how to reel it in! She called for help and David got his chance to have a go at fishing himself! But the wiley fish got the line tangled around the water lilies and in the end the man came back and had to end up cutting the line. So the fish got away!!

We had an exciting walk along the river, hearing lots of birdsong - identified by a new App that our friend Hélène, introduced us to - “Merlin”. Also we saw two muntjac deer running ahead of us.

David finished off his action packed day by impressively cooking Crispy Fried Duck in pancakes for dinner, albeit not from scratch - it was still very delicious! My job again was to clear up afterwards, so I don’t feel too useless!

We are sitting outside our van now being entertained by the songs of a multitude of birds in the vicinity!
