Greenhouse Effect

The longstanding Farm Business tenant of the nursery, left to my sisters and me by our mother, called me early yesterday. My errant nephew had cut through the gate lock chain and put a lock of his own on the gate so that the tenant couldn't get in. He'd taken vehicles and tents down to the back field. He and others were camped there. They'd lit fires and flattened a large area of grass which was due to be cut for hay. Our tenant said he was going to contact the police and I said that I'd do the same. If it hadn't been my daughter's birthday I would have gone straight down there. It took us ages to get him off when he did similar a couple of years ago.

Today I left here at 3:30 am, when it was just starting to get light, for a journey that usually takes an hour. I had the most wonderful brisk drive in my Honda S2000 on dry, empty roads as morning broke, listening to Pete Tong's Hot Mix. The music really energised me and by the time I arrived at the nursery I was primed for a showdown.  As I got out of the car the strawberry moon was hanging over the glasshouses. (Extras)

When I got to the field I was surprised and relieved to discover that they had left. I wonder if the police had called and put the wind up them? As I walked back to the car the rising sun caught the greenhouses and illuminated goat's beard clocks. The wild flowers were wet with dew and sweet peas in the glasshouses very fragrant. (Extras)
