The Pump Shed

We had a wild windy night. A south-easterly gale blew up and howled around the house and the rain poured down. Later in the morning it was bitterly cold out on the Taylor River tracks with a freezing wind blowing and threatening heavy blue-grey clouds.
Snow had fallen on The Ned to the south and Richmond Range to the north. Today's image looks across part of the Meadowbank Station vineyards to the Richmond Range. Mounts Riley and Sunday predominate in the background.
The Pump Shed houses much of the equipment and machinery for irrigating the vineyards during the summer months. Water is sucked out of the Taylor River gravels and taken by pipe to the valves and pumps. It is then distributed to the irrigation system throughout the vineyard.
The land in the foreground has recently been cleared of old pines and scrub. Some of the pines were harvested for their logs and the remainder of scrappy wood rubbish has been burnt in large bonfires.
In a few months' time that cleared ground will be further tidied and cultivated and then planted in more grapes. It will be interesting to record the progress for future blips. So watch this space....
