Song of the Cedar Waxwing

Many of you know the ending to yesterday's blip with the fledgling Cedar Waxwing. When it became light enough to see, I walked out to the garden shed to find the little guy dead. I was pretty surprised, and stunned, after his strong appearance in the garden on Monday night. I always knew his was a long shot for making it, but I thought he had a chance.

This shot is of an adult Cedar Waxwing, possibly one of the little guy's parents, at the top of one of our tall cedars. We only see them in the summer, and like I said yesterday, their song is the soundtrack to the summer in our back yard. This is also the image I hoped for the little guy.

It feels a little strange to mourn a bird. It's really that I was just pulling for him so much to make it. I thought he was on his way.

What really came to me was why I like Blip so much. Day after day we blip the silly, the dramatic, the photogenic, the scenic. And yesterday, my Blip pal scribbler and I had similar themes: life and loss. scribbler's post from Monday contains a more human element, certainly tragic, but both deal with the miracle of life, and hope, and faith. Blip allows us to share the mundane and the miraculous, and I like that.

I listened to the Cedar Waxwing song all day. I'll write more about it.
