Lundy joys

My faith in human humanity has been restored. A most beautiful and rewarding trip to the Island of Lundy with friends and whilst making friends.
I helped a young woman with her camping gear onto the quayside for her few days on Lundy only to discover that she was Alice the granddaughter of one of my dearest friends who had just won her age group at the European duathlon championships in Portugal.
The rest of the journey was over in a very short time as I knew that she was a wildlife photographer and we swapped adventures whilst chatting about life.
On arrival I got a move on to try and get to the Puffin hot spot, I passed nearly everyone ahead of me and was shocked to see how many people were desperately unfit and having to rest every twenty paces or so.
Wheatears were so abundant that I was worried about treading on one. When I arrived at the hotel spot I wasn’t disappointed at all, my binoculars were all I needed, there’s on special close up shot I managed to get in my extras but the rest of the photos are stored for eternity in my head.
An hour or so later crowds started to gather and I thought it was time for some lunch whilst lending my binoculars to those who had arrived unprepared for the stunning spectacle before our eyes.
I had a great workout on the journey around the island and headed to the magnificent church where I was able to purchase some WiFi and support the church at the same time.
There was certainly some wonderful craftsmanship in the construction of the church and somewhere I would love to return to for one of the services which are held on the first Sunday of each month.
Perhaps a slightly longer visit to Lundy stopping in one of delightful little lodges for a few days?
Whilst enjoying some sunshine I was invited by some lovely people to join them for a drink in the glorious sunshine looking down towards the harbour and across to the North Devon coastline.
Banter and joy was evident from start to finish and phone numbers were exchanged.
Here’s a message they sent later on to me with this photo.

“Hiya Simon, this was the best pic out of the three. We had a great time at Lundy today made even nicer by meeting a lovely gentleman like you!!
Take Care,
Mike & Katherine Evans.
