Cousin Jean

Last night we saw my cousin and family and tonight we saw Dad’s cousin Jean and husband Ian who still live locally in Uppermill.

Jean’s Mum Dolly, and Dad’s Dad Joe, were the youngest of 5 siblings, the older ones being Jenny, Fred and Jack. There were 8 cousins altogether, and only Dad and Jean still here. The evening was spent reminiscing, laughing and catching up with family news. We have always had a strong bond with lovely cousin Jean (who Dad says is like me).

We met Simon and Franchesca at Dad’s parents and sisters’ graves at St Nicholas Church in Codsall this morning. What a lovely spot and a chance for more chatting and to compliment Simon and Franchesca again for a wonderful evening.

Then on to 24 Meadow Lane in Oldham where my Mum grew up and was ‘courted’ by my Dad, and where I spent every Christmas for the first 15 years of my life. With nothing to lose we knocked on the door and the new owner Mrs Rafik invited us in and showed us around. Amazing! What powerful memories that brought back (despite it having changed A LOT)!
