A Heron Surprise

Rather than walk around my neighborhood this morning, I decided to go back to the gardens and carry my camera, in case I saw something I had missed there the day before. My route included a path running beside the pond where I spotted a Green Heron yesterday.  To my surprise, in the same location, was another heron.  But this was a Black-crowned Night Heron. I've been to these gardens many times and this is the first summer I have seen anything other than a Great Blue.This Black-crowned was repeatedly putting its bill in the algae as if it was drinking.  Or perhaps it was stirring up the water, hoping for a small fish.
