Lambeau Field
"There are only 3 things in life that matter: your religion, your family and the
Green Bay Packers."
Vince Lombardi (legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers 1959-1967)
That about sums up Wisconsin on game days!! If you want to shop without the crowds, go during a Packer game, because most people are in Green Bay at the stadium, or home watching the game on TV. If you go to a late service on a Sunday & the game starts at 12, an extra prayer will be said for the Packers, & it'll be a quick sermon so that everyone can get home to watch the game! Ha!
Today we drove 2 hours to Green Bay to tour the Packer's Hall of Fame & Lambeau Field. I've only been there once & that was a long time ago--I prefer to watch the games on TV--but if you love football (which I do ) , the hall of fame is wonderful. It has it all.....pictures, facts, jerseys, the Lombardi trophies from the super bowls & super bowl rings.... from the first Packer team in 1912 up to the current time. There's even an area where you can try your own Lambeau leap! (a jump into the stands after a touchdown) It's the only professional sports team in the US that is owned by the public, not by a rich owner. They hold 13 world championships, but still have wonderful small town traditions. After their practices, which are held a couple blocks from Lambeau in the Don Hudson Center, the players come out & there are always boys & girls waiting there with their bikes. Each of the players will grab one of the bikes to ride back to Lambeau field, & the boy or girl who owns it gets to ride with them or walk back with them & talk about football & get autographs. Can you imagine the thrill for kids to have Aaron Rogers or Clay Matthews riding their bike & talking to them? I took this picture from the deluxe sky box---(unfortunately, the skybox isn't mine; it was part of the tour! Only $180,000 dollars to rent it for the year--such a deal!) Maybe next year!! :) (& did I mention that the stadium can seat 80,000 fans, & that there has not been 1 game in the past 50 years that was not sold out--they have a waiting list for season tickets that has approx. 1800 people on it--they can't get tickets because Packer tickets are handed down from generation to generation, so stay in the family & don't go back on the market--truly amazing for a city that only has about 100,000 people!)
