Azulejos

Tiles.

The inscription next to this display indicates that this is the first panel of tiles made of recycled plastic anywhere on the African continent, and encourages people not to throw plastic on the ground. Maputo has a bad trash problem, but also has some inspirational initiatives to improve people’s awareness around plastic pollution.

Last night I had to disconnect the fuse box because of a loud thrumming that prevented sleep. Shutting down the electrics in order to rest is a new one on me, but I was bored of tossing and turning. Today was a full day of meetings and dealing with urgencies around the fringes. But it’s excellent to be in Mozambique this week where the work situation and associated headspace are much more amenable, and therefore the days more pleasant.
