Difficult delivery

We wanted to send Australian wine to R to celebrate his 80th. Easy. We ordered the wine online, from an English company. We received a jolly message – the wine would be delivered that day. Then a less jolly message – the parcel had been refused by the intended recipient. Refused? Why?

The delivery company advised us to contact the suppliers to ‘rearrange delivery’. But they are in England. Anyway, on further investigation we found that the reason the wine was refused was that the delivery company had tried to deliver it to the wrong address. After a number of irate phone calls and a further flurry of encouraging messages, we believe it is on its way to the right address.

We are not holding our breath. And by the way, when did 'stop by' become part of the English language?
