OIB?!

OIB (= Only In Belgium)?
Road works are currently underway on our road. Over the weekend road signs appeared and yesterday we received a letter from the council that from today 7 am the road needed to be completely cleared...

Now you should know that in Belgium the summer holidays start on the 1st of July, so these road works are taking placing during the holidays. Nicely planned, you might think, as a number of households will be on holiday and don't need a parking space during the works. Except that some people do not take their car on holiday and leave it on the road (as most likely did this car owner). Now amongst the neighbours who are still here, we managed to locate most car keys and were able to move most of the cars - we help each other out during the holidays by watering each others plants and take care of the pet animals.

We felt a bit bad that we weren't able to locate the keys to this car as we suspected the car would be towed away - not a nice surprise to find out on your return from your holidays. But they didn't tow the car... We were amazed to see they just scraped the asphalt from around the car!

Completely bizarre...
