Get Me To The Church On Time
The Providence Stage Band's annual concert at Gethsemane Lutheran Church was practically a bust, but not quite.
The first number they played was "Get Me To The Church On Time," but it was played to a practically empty church hall. Such a disappointment for them. Their annual concerts used to be popular and well attended. The band has been around since the early 1960's, but covid, loss of their main sponsor and rehearsal space, and the retirement of a long time leader has left them foundering. But they played, and played well. It's a swing band, and about half the audience (20 or so) danced.
The church hall had been a popular rehearsal and performance place for years before the church bought the place and built their church on to it. It has a great dance floor, with a sort of floating sub-floor, and the acoustics are really good.
Also, legend has it that Willie Nelson used to play there with an early band of his own, before he left town for the big time.
