The golden spire

Was in Linlithgow briefly today. Took a quick snap of the palace and the new 'crown of thorns' spire on St Michael's church. It's golden now and looks a lot better than the faded tinny looking one before it. I believe the original one was also golden, but faded after it was completed in 1964 due to the Scottish weather. This one has a special coating so supposedly will last longer.
Also, couldn't resist an extra to carry on the electrics theme. This time I pulled out the potentiometer from my lathe as it had stopped controlling the speed any more. I didn't want to turn wood at 3000 rpm all the time so have ordered a new one for a couple of quid which should sort things out. No soldering needed this time.
