Rooted To The Spot
Looks to me like a young heron, smaller than I recall. He stood completely motionless and didn't fly away when seeing me. I think he must have been standing on a log, because the water is much deeper at that point.
When photographing in direct sunlight like this, it's easy to blow out the lighter parts of the bird. I had underexposed by a stop when taking the shot, which helped. Just raising the exposure and whites and dropping highlights was not enough. I had to use a brush to recover colour and detail on the bird. Worth the fiddle I think.
