Weathering the Storm

A day of working on the disposal of various items. First job was to vacuum out the drawers and cupboards of the furniture which (I really hope) will be picked up for charity on Monday morning. I also plugged in the hostess trolley to make sure it still works, which it does. Once that was also cleaned up, I put some clothes in the washing machine and then set about finishing off wrapping the rest of the crockery ready to take to the charity warehouse I explored yesterday. I shall pack up some unwanted books for them too, as I noticed they have a very large book section next to the cafe in the warehouse. I can see it’s going to be a favourite destination in the future, as I do love a good look around places like that to find a bargain.

I also popped up to the village this afternoon to collect a parcel from Boots, during a sunny spell in-between the wind, torrential rain and thunderstorms. Back home, while it was still dry, I did a bit of deadheading on all the roses back and front. The rambling rose over the archway has loads of buds, so that’s about to look really pretty very soon.

My estate agent called with a brief update on the state of play with the flat, which I asked them to find out yesterday. The buyer’s solicitor sent them a short email to say that they now have everything they need from me, and are just waiting for the searches to come in. This is the thing which always seems to hold up property sales - I have no idea why it takes so long to do them. They’re hoping to receive the searches on Thursday, so fingers crossed that they don’t throw up any further horrors and that we can at last exchange contracts after that. At this stage of proceedings my nerves are in shreds, and I just want to get on with it.

Pictured is Mum’s best antique bone china and one or two other bits that she told me might be worth selling at auction. I shall be packing them up securely tomorrow to take along for valuation, though to be honest I’m not convinced they’re worth much these days. I promised Mum I wouldn’t give them away for nothing, so I shall keep my word.
