Forteresse Royale de Chinon
We drove across to Chinon today. After wandering around the centre ville and its streets lined with 15th and 16th century houses we visited the 12th century fortress towering over the town.
It was a favourite of Henry II of England who spent a lot of time there. It is also where Joan of Arc persuaded the dauphin, later Charles VII, to give her an army which she led to victory over the English. Fascinating stuff.
