Family history

Our friend P has been researching her family history for some years. Now we are transcribing her records into a family history database for her family and descendants.

It’s not a good photo, but I wanted to capture some of the feeling of the experience. P's forebears were Catholic immigrants from Ireland. It’s not surprising then that they had lots of children – families with ten or twelve children – or that they usually had traditional Catholic names like Mary and Michael. If a child died - and this was a common enough event - they often reallocated that child’s names to a later sibling.

So organising the records is painstaking work, needing plenty of colour highlighters!
