Globes unveiled

After being installed last week and then rapidly covered up again,  the globes were officially announced today and visible again.  This one is outside the campus pub, Park House. It is now a welcoming place with a great local beer selection and a former car park has been converted to outside seating.  When I was first at the university in the early 1980s it was the senior common room, restricted to staff 'above the bar' on the pay scale and with intimidating wood panelling everywhere.  I did finally make it to the relevant point in the hierarchy and went in once but was so intimidated by the ranks of crusty male academics I never darkened their doors again.  Thankfully it is a much more welcoming place now.
