Over to Orkney

Old Man of Hoy

We were up early to catch the ferry from Scrabster (near Thurso) over to Orkney. Not the smoothest of crossings as the sea was quite rough, but it was OK.
I was very excited to be passing the Old Man of Hoy (a well known geological feature) on our way.
Once on Orkney we visited Skara Brae - an ancient settlement where people lived before the Egyptian pyramids were built! It was remarkably intact and careful excavation has preserved its remarkable history. We travelled on through other landscape features with J's interest is particularly in geology and mine in derelict buildings.
It's cold over here - much cooler than is normal for the time of year- so it's thick sweaters and lots of heating!
