Jump around

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw.

It could have been an absolute shocker of a day today, but as it turned out it was anything but!

I was helping someone out and so was in sole charge of four similar aged children from dawn until dusk. Throw in the fact that it was The Youngest’s birthday weekend and you have quite the heady concoction. Eep.

We started with a breakfast of toast and pastries before heading out to an exceptionally quiet Jump Rush (an indoor trampoline park in Morecambe) where we met my sister and her two younger children. After some initial post-nap time grumpiness, under the encouragement of The Youngest, I was delighted to see my nephew quite literally throw himself into the madness of it all!

As for the rest of them….well, there were quite a number of sweaty messes that emerged from an hour of bouncing off the walls (in all the best ways) and so we deemed it essential to cool down with some slushies.

Back to mine for lunch where driving up the M6 we saw the bridges lined with people preparing to watch and honour Dave Day, which seemed to be a roaring success. We had a lovely birthday lunch together where we were joined by my parents who had come armed with presents for The Youngest, which were well received.

After that it was up to Staveley for a walk around Wheelbase (a humongous cycling store) to purchase a new “not pink” helmet for The Youngest, which we achieved - going for matt black instead. This was also energy sapping, so we had no choice but to head to the local gelato place and feed our faces some more - they were amazing.

Returning home, we all immediately saddled up and headed out for a bike ride (where some of us didn’t fall off and injure ourselves) down to and along the river where we skimmed stones and made splashes with big rocks.

Then it was back to mine for sausage sandwiches for tea, just as the relief crew arrived!

Mad busy day, but so much fun!
