Blue Plaque Walk

The Rushden & District History Society group in Northamptonshire had organised a 2.5 hours Blue Plaque walk this evening. We visited several buildings with blue plaques and members of History Society who were leading the walk gave the commentary. It was really sad to see that some once very beautiful buildings have now been raised to ground to give way to an Asda (in fact, one blue plaque is within Asda - so, we all went inside the store to look at it) and other superstores.

However, this set of cottages in this blip which are over 150 years old have been left alone. Recipient of Victoria Cross - Lt Col Bernard Vann was born in one of these two cottages. More details of his life are available here. The local History Society is campaigning that the new primary school in the town should be named after him as both his parents were teachers in a local school.
