View from the top

After a night of coughing, feeling somewhat jaded this morning. But needs must, and cough suppressed slightly by "soothing menthol lozenges" for "throat and chest", I did a supermarket shop with MrM. It was supposed to be a small, quick 'top up' shop, but somehow we left Aldi with more than intended!

It didn't seem a good idea to cough my way through French dancing so, reluctantly, I stayed away this afternoon. It was good weather so MrM suggested a road trip, and we decided on parts of Derbyshire. I had assumed that when MrM said road trip, it wouldn't include anything energetic. Wrong! Coughing or not, he persuaded me that I would be fine to walk to the top of Mam Tor, fortunately just a short walk from the National Trust car park. There was a fierce, biting wind on the top, and I must admit to feeling a bit ropey getting up there, but the views were stupendous.

The steep gorge to the right of the Blip is Winnats Pass, which we drove through later in the afternoon, admiring the amazing scenery. To the left of the Blip is a cement works, the largest in the UK.

We ate our picnic tea with a splendid view of the hills. Then a drive through Hathersage on the way back home, after a most enjoyable afternoon.
