Owls
Well I was a bit stunned by the reaction to yesterday's hastily arranged and blipped image - thank you so much - it just goes to show that the simple things are often the most appreciated.
Today the forecast was good and we decided to do a long walk - one of the Fastnet Trails - Lisheenacrehig Loop should you be really interested. The trail is all on roads but little ones, strewn with foxgloves, honeysuckle and valerian. We passed messy farms - discarded machinery, a lot of mud and heaps of plastic - fields overflowing with Friesian cows, a lot of derelict houses, the remains of a cilleen (burial place for unbaptised children) now, in my opinion, unsettled by some obtrusive Stations of the Cross. We ate our oatcakes and cheese down at Roaringwater pier and I marvelled at how yachts could just be abandoned- three were lying there, two in the water one on the land, once posh and expensive but now long forgotten. I was especially taken, however, by the jaunty little labourer's house, now extended with some jazzy paintwork - and owls! In fact there were quite a few birds adorning the gateposts.
