Cigognes

White storks are the symbol of Alsace. We have seen the empty nests when we have visited in the winter but today saw lots of these beautiful birds in nests high up and gliding, necks and legs outstretched. 
They are migratory and return here to breed in Feb/March each year, to the same nest, some from Africa. Some now stay here all year after a programme to save them was launched in 1970s as they were in danger of disappearing.
We started the day with a coffe with R's brother, then sorted a picnic and had a lovely walk through the vineyards nr Colmar. See extras.... the last one was a bit of a mistake.... but I like the close up of feather and baby's head!
