Thighs And Eyes

Swollen-thighed beetles are everywhere at the moment. Most are green, nice to see this copper-coloured one. Their wing cases gape and they eat pollen. Only the males have thunder thighs. The tiny pink flower in my image is a cut-leaved cranesbill. The lovely green eyes on the right belong to a long-legged fly, possibly Dolichopus ungulatus.

I've seen one-eyed Reynard in the garden at dusk a few times recently. He loped through a bit earlier today around 8:15. I grabbed the camera and snapped him through the window with my macro lens. I'm so pleased to see him looking well. He was such a good mate and father last year. Wonder if he's had a family this year?
