Sunbeams

Wild Rose

or Dog Rose, or Witches Briar is an important source of nectar for insects. There are legends about this plant as the Roman naturalist Pliny thought the root could cure the bite of a rabid dog hence the name.  In Germany the hips were said to be used by fairies to make themselves invisible and it was also a common symbol in medieval heraldry, no doubt there are more stories to find.  I love them because they are so simple and the colour of the petals change from a deep pink to almost white as the flower develops.

Extra: more roses
