Up in a tree and down on the water

I don't know where the heron came from but as I was walking round Maxwell Park pond this morning I was suddenly aware of this large bird passing and landing on a branch at the top of a tree. It could only be a heron and to try and get a reasonable photo there was a lot of knee bending and getting rather too near to the edge of the pond.

I spent far too long just standing watching that I only managed one quick photo of the swan family up near the reeds before I had to hurry back to the car and head off to church.
