Getting the sparkle back

The lion and the unicorn

In the newly re-vamped Perth Museum which I visited with JP on a day trip. One of the draws was the unicorn exhibition, of which this was one of the exhibits. I'm very fond of unicorns and would have liked more late Medieval tapestries, however there were some interesting exhibits and the whole top floor was given over to the modern cultural significance of unicorns. I was aware of the many pink plastic unicorns there are around, but I hadn't realised how unicorns had been embraced by the LGBTQI+ community. This coat of arms plaque was presented by Queen Victoria to The Royal George Hotel in 1848 and shows an unusually happy unicorn which must have patched things up with the lion for the occasion.

We saw the Stone of Destiny which has its own section in the museum but didn't really have the time or energy for much of the permanent exhibition. However, we did find time for a couple of visits to the cafe which has our seal of approval.

It was a beautiful day and although we didn't see a great deal of it in Perth, the train journey there and back was splendid.
