Another phone call

At half past six in the morning, we were called: my dad’s breathing was getting shallow and his pulse was getting weak. Martine and I arrived at his room around seven ‘o clock and we could indeed notice the difference.

We did not have any breakfast and had to wait for the restaurant downstairs to be opened at ten ‘o clock. We had to settle for cake and cookies as there was nothing else. Martine made this photo and I guess it does show that I’ve been having a tough week…

When Martine had to leave for a while my mum was there and we did some crossword puzzles. When Martine had returned we talked for a bit and then at 15.30, the shallow breathing stopped and my dad past away….

A sad moment, but I was so glad I was there with the most important people in my life.

After that, the undertaker arrived. For a week, we had been living in this weird “in between phase” and everything went very slow. But now, we had to shift to high gear. A lot of things were done. My dad was moved to Ten Boer, close to all of us. Card, obituary, a date for the cremation: all taken care of.

At 21.30, I was exhausted and wanted to go home to see Inge who was going to leave for Albufeira an hour later. I’m glad I was still able to see her and wish her a great time.

Right. Let’s bring on another week with lots of emotions until the cremation on June 8th…
