Abutilon mesopotamica flowers near a garden rose

Recently I brought the Abutilon mesopotamica out of its winter quarters to have a wash and drink. It is rather leggy this year but the distinctively shaped and coloured flowers have amassed on the old stems.
I put the large potion the patio table to make sure the rain got to it, and now its flowers are appearing close by the rose, which is another gallant survivor.

I first saw an abutilon in the conservatory of Alicia Harpur, mother to my great friends from our school days, in the 1960s. I was astonished by these flowers and many years later I found an example in a nursery and had to buy it. I think this is my third abutilon with aren't hardy so have a bit of a rough ride in my hands. But each of them has had slightly different flower shapes and colours. I'm not sure this is my favourite; I prefer the simpler bell shaped orange variety, but I'm always pleased to see it coming back into flower.

The rose is another matter. I'm never very good growing roses, but they keep trying hard, and I appreciate their endeavours.
