Life in a Northern Town

Geeking out

Today was Huddersfield Comic Con and as the lovely James Cosmo was attending I went for a meet and greet with him. He was absolutely charming, probably best known for Game of Thrones but we chatted about his appearance in Shetland too. Meanwhile Sarah and John were off on their own geeky travels - see extras. It was just what we needed after this week.

Finally I managed to get the crisis team out to my mum, who told me they could not believe they were looking at the same person as described by the GP in her notes (“bright and cheerful” “no urgent medical needs” to name a couple of the things she wrote the previous day). The lead OT has filed a complaint, which won’t help, and I’m sure the GP is under enormous pressure but the way she spoke to me was pretty disgusting. I had started to think I was making a fuss over nothing but I know now I wasn’t. Anyway, two weeks of full home support is in place from today - this should have been given on discharge from hospital so my mother has suffered unnecessarily for a full week. We are going away for ten days on Monday - I was on the verge of cancelling although the insurer wanted a GP letter and the GP was saying there wasn’t an issue…..

So as of today we are in a better situation and most importantly my mum and stepdad are being cared for. He is completely exhausted and just knowing someone else will be there is making all the difference.

Edit - the crisis team arrived today and called an ambulance right away. Never a dull moment.
