Over Yonder

Hi Darlings!

My Dear Princess and Dear Fellow,

I went out with Caro this afternoon to do some chores.

This makes it sound like Not Fun.

However, I really enjoy tootling around with Caro in the afternoon. She puts music on in her car, she swears amusingly at other drivers and we have a good time.

Often there is cake.

Today Caro took me to "The Lockup" which is basically a coffee house located in a garage at the beach. There is a seated area there and today was surprisingly summery for Autumn.

We had coffee and butties* and there was chat.

And sparrows. Lots of sparrows hanging around and turning their heads and cheeping and being just adorable. Both Caro and I were quite taken with this sign.

But no cake. Their cake selection did not meet the Caro Criteria.

So we drove back home, looking for cake all the way.

THREE cake shops later, Caro was finally satisfied**. "Eff's sake," she muttered.

But I could tell she had enjoyed her afternoon too.

* "What are BUTTIES??" Jefe asked Caro and me one time. We did our best to explain but it was surprisingly hard. What IS the difference between a butty and a sandwich?

** Aotearoa does lack something in its cake shops. Especially if they are also coffee places. I don't understand it. Their cake selection is old-fashioned and based heavily on scones and Eccles cakes. You have to go to a dedicated bakery for a really good doughnut or cream cake.
