New Arrival

Last Friday afternoon after we arrived down, we walked up to Hookney Tor seen here in the background, and found this little mare all alone and obviously very pregnant. Her belly were so taught you could see her insides moving and we suspected that birth was not far away.

We have been up there on Saturday and Sunday and again this morning and saw no sight of her, then as we drove down the little road through the valley after our walk this morning, there she was together with her new arrival who looked about a day or two old.

The moor is full of new born foals, most living in small groups but this mum seems to want to be alone at the moment.
