NOT A GOOD DAY
I left Christchurch around lunch time to head to Akaroa. The trip was good and no hold ups on the highway.
Different story when I arrived. It noticed the windows were all steamed up. When I opened the door I found a swimming pool in the house. I thought it could have been the hot water cylinder ... not that was all dry and no water pipes in the house seem to be leaking. The couple above me were home so I asked if he could help me find the leak. After a lot of looking around we found that the water meter that doesn't belong to my my property was full of flowing water. A pipe higher up on the hill was leaking and running into my place. We turned the water meter tap off.. but it kept flowing.
My neighbour knows the Akaroa plumber and he was trying to get hold of him and it was going to answer phone. Luckily he found the message and come around just as he was getting dark.
When my other neighbours got home between as all we managed to get the best stuff out of the house into the garage before it got dark. They were all such a great help. SO ever grateful. I tried not to brake down tears ...but I just couldn't help it. A lot of my artwork was on the floor and is badly damaged. With the furniture being in water for probably a good two weeks that is badly affected and most will need to be replaced, Likewise with bedding and drapes. The damage to wall etc ... well be bad too.. I would say.
I had to return back to Christchurch in the dark. It was a bit a worry on the hills but I managed well. I had to arrange insurance things as soon as I got home which took ages. It was good to get a texted from my neighbour when I arrived home to say the plumber had managed to stopped the leak. Also my other neighbour texted to make sure I got home safely as she was worried about me travelling over the steep hills in the dark.
In all a complete disaster for me ... I may not be on blip much as my mind is all over the place at the moment.
