Dracunculus vulgaris…

…or voodoo lily.  There are two of these plants on my walk downtown, and I watch for them every year around this time. They’ve been in the exact same place for as long as I can remember. The bulbs don’t appear to multiply, as there are always just two plants. Voodoo Lilies are reported to have an odor like rotting meat, to attract insects, but I’ve never smelled it. I’m just fascinated by that exquisite velvety color.
