My Father served in Fighter Command through the war, flying spitfires, mainlly in 610 and 222 squadrons.  By 1944 he was leading the squadron, and while they were not deployed on D Day, from the following week they were patrolling the coast and beaches of Normandy.

This portrait is by Cuthbert Orde and is in his book "Pilots of Fighter Command".  It was done in 1943 and has pride of place in our home.

The second blip is Thomas Tyrell's latest creation in his window.  I had to include it
