You can't beat it. Despite all the problems that Ireland has at least you can go out and caste your vote for whoever you want. There is a determined effort here as in most of the world to damage or destroy the democratic process but I think it will remain intact, here at least. We have Proportional Representation here and I think it is a great system. You vote  candidates according to your preference. If your first prefered candidate is knocked out your vote goes on to your second preference and so on. If you only like one candidate you can just vote for them.

As the saying goes: If you don't want them in, vote them out.
