Commemoration

As I walked home from Pilates, I noticed our village sign was adorned with  field poppies, which seemed appropriate as people  commemorate the  80th anniversary of  D-Day, this week.

This evening, we attended the monthly  RSPB meeting. We were treated to an excellent talk, illustrated with lovely photos,  by Marcus Ward. He described the year at  the Normandy Marsh, near Lymington, and  the many birds and other wildlife to be found there. It's one of a series of saltmarshes, which used to be a site of salterns for salt extraction. Now, the  shallow lagoons, and  scrubland behind, are an important  nature reserve. It's certainly a place we enjoy  visiting, especially  on a sunny winter day.
