Salt
Torrential rain so cleverly we jumped in the train to the Wieliczka Salt mines.
Three hour tour down in to the deep mines and we reached as far as 130m down only a third of its depths and saw only a fractions of its treasures. The salt is solid grey, not white as expected and all around, ceilings and floors. We literally could lick the walls :) Amazing sculptures throughout, chapels carved into the salt with beautiful 3D biblical frescoes. Incredibly it was first mined in the 1600s so 400 years worth of work and as white gold, brought huge riches to the area.
We came out to drier skies and went straight to lunch at Glonojad again. Burritos and Aperols then went back to the hotel to finish Schindler’s List. Intending going to Auschwitz tomorrow however a text came in saying our 7.00am start had been shifted to 5.00am. Knowing how knackered we would be we got tetchy and eventually cancelled and rebooked for Thursday instead.
Consoled myself with the best pretzel I’ve ever had in my life… raspberry and white chocolate. Heavenly!
