Trip Away Day 4#

The City of Wuppertal, Germany lies between the Rhine and the Ruhr. It has a unique railway system - The Schwebebahn - a unique overhead suspension railway begun in 1901.

The track is 13.3 kilometres long, 8 metres above the streets and 12 metres above the River Wupper. Today there are 18 stations between the two terminals at Oberbarmen and Vohwinkel.
Vohwinkel is the only repair works for suspension trains in the world.

This was a key visit for me, having seen this railway on a TV documentary. Loved it !
