Trip Away Day 2#

Down the River Thames to Greenwich, London, UK.
This is the Cutty Sark, a famous tea clipper built in Scotland in 1869. It is the only one to survive, apart from the City of Adelaide which is now being restored in Australia.

The ship's figurehead is a representation of the witch from which she gets her name.

Her sleek lines and enormous area of sail made her the fastest ship in the race via the Cape of Good Hope for the money-spinning tea trade with China. Her last cargo of tea was carried in 1877 and she was then used in the wool trade with Australia.
