Castle through the trees

Sally had a meeting in town so I taxied her there and back and while she was busy I walked the dogs in Bute Park. Lots of photo opportunities but decided on this one of the rear of Cardiff Castle seen through the trees of Bute Park.
A fort was built by the Romans in Cardiff but after 1066 the Normans erected a Motte, initially of wood but later os stone, on the site of the Roman Fort. In the 18th and 19th Centuries the city was dominated by the Bute family who turned Cardiff into the World’s greatest coal exporting port. In 1866, the 3rd Marquess began a collaboration with the genius architect William Burgess to transform the castle into a stately home of gothic towers and turrented walls with lavish and opulent interiors. After the death of the 4th Marquess, the family gave the castle and extensive parkland to the city of Cardiff. It’s a great place to visit.
