Life in Newburgh on Ythan

A new pub

Another entry for my occasional series, a good name for a traditional British pub. Today I give you "Ye olde flag and beetles."

The yellow Iris is also known as the yellow flag. There are at least two beetles on this flag. There are an awful lot of types of beetle and I am afraid that I cannot give them a name. The great British biologist John B. S. Haldane (1892-1964) described perfectly the superabundance of types of beetle thus:
"If one could conclude as to the nature of the Creator from a study of his creation it would appear that God has a special fondness for stars and beetles."
