When I was a kid, my mom often bought Monk's bread. It's not sold in many stores, so when I ran across it today, I had to get a loaf. Sunflower oatmeal was always a favorite, so that was my choice.

Made by Trappist Monks in Piffard, NY, a town in Western New York State, proceeds from sales of the loaves supports the monastery, as well as other charitable organizations.

It is interesting how the loaf is small by today's super sized standards, but it works fine for me.

I have a strong fondness for the foods of my childhood, and because I have been on an extended stay in the area I grew up in, I have enjoyed the little surprises that I've encountered along the way.
