Vote on the union

This was not a national constitutional issue but today, at church, and in the other two congregations with whom a union is proposed, we had our secret ballots.

The votes were almost unanimous with one person out of all votes across the congregations opposing. So a very positive message as we move to the next step in creating a new congregation later in the year.

This process of uniting congregations across Scotland has generated a lot of discussion, and in some cases controversy, in recent years. For many it does mean breaking away from what they are used to.

The scale of rationalisation is huge but the bringing together of congregations is not at all new. Some of our offering plates, such as this one, evidence this with names of previous churches etched on their surface.
