The things we do

It seems I knocked out over a hundred miles today on a round trip to photograph a drainpipe.

After a slightly lazy start and after a surprise wee visit this morning from my brother and Boy Wonder who were off to the climbing place, I headed across the water to Fife, bound for Falkland.  I visited the little town in February last year as part of a Brompton group bike ride, when it was freezing cold.  Today, it was lovely and warm.  After looking at the palace for a couple of minutes I located my piece of iron founding not far away, snapped a few pictures, and then wandered up and down in search of a nice bench where I could eat my sandwiches.  I eventually found some by the war memorial where it was quiet and peaceful and shaded by big trees.

On checking some details I discovered that I hadn't actually photographed the right drainpipe.  Once I'd located the real one, just down the road and along a bit, I snapped away again for a few minutes.  Each piece of down pipe has a little "LION" shield cast on it.

In the car park was a lovely, though slightly rusty, Jaguar E-type, left-hand drive and with room in the back for two people (if you happened to have very small legs).  There was also a cheerful but rather unloved Morris Minor parked nearby.

From Falkland I did a circuit through Auchtermuchty, Ladybank and Freuchie, looking at various red telephone boxes (none of which were made by Lion Foundry, the shame!), then back through Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy and North Queensferry, where I borrowed Mum and Dad's bench under the Forth Bridge and drank the rest of my flask of tea while the occasional train rumbled overhead.  In the last photo you can see Town Pier where the car ferry used to berth.  Had I remembered that the new railway station at Levenmouth opened for passengers today, I might have paid a visit.

And from North Queensferry I joined the throng of traffic making its way slowly over the bridge, and thence home for tea!
