Graffiti painted from the canal towpath

I hadn't seen this wall recently and there has been fresh paint added. The town council has set up a wall for people to paint murals and graffiti in the town centre, hopefully encouraging them to use those spaces rather than damaging other walls.

As I'm a big fan of our local Cotswold limestone walls so I find it sad to see them with paint on them. Possibly this initiative will allow the best of both worlds. I think these relatively modern factory walls are much improved by such graffiti.

I've just hear that a Palestinian graffiti artist is visiting Stroud for five days and will be having a workshop under the auspices of Stroud Valleys Artspace. Read about Taxi Spateen's visit here.

This part of the canal has not been regenerated yet. In theory it will be reopened to allow boats to reach Brimscombe Port, which lies about half a mile further ahead of here, but it may be some time. Most of the current effort is being spent on  reconstituting the 'missing' mile' between Stonehouse and Saul Junction, so that the western end of the Thames and Severn Canal can be joined up at Saul with the rest of the inland waterway network.
